Basic Tips on air
travel with children and babies
There are a number of approved child restraint devices
available, your carrier will be able to advise on this. Seats towards
the front of economy/coach class, or front seats in the cabins of
budget/economy airlines tend to have the most room. Try and avoid busy
periods for travel and allow plenty of time for check-in and boarding
so baby can become settled before the plane fills.
For takeoff and landing, put the seat belt just around
you and hold your baby on your lap or put it in a front carrier. Don't
place the seat belt around the baby.
Ears may plug up or hurt during take-off or landing,
caused by the change in cabin air pressure. Feeding during these times
may help as swallowing will help to equalize the air pressure.
Flight attendants can warm food and bottles for you.
Remember that small is very often beautiful when
carrying extra hand-luggage needed for baby on a flight and when the
journey ends, it is better to let other passengers exit the cabin
first in order to give you more space to organise.
